Indigenous Peoples Call for Global Ban on Uranium Mining, Due To Devastating Negative Consequences On Water, Air, Land And Health Of Communities Nearby - Nuclear Industry Destroys Health Of Seven Future Generations While Also Destroying Present Day Environment
New Mexico's long history of uranium mining on Native American lands provides fuel for the front end of the nuclear industry and stores much of the mine tailings and radioactive waste from nuclear weapons and power plants. We look at the devastating impact uranium mining continues to have on Native lands with Leona Morgan of Eastern Navajo Diné Against Uranium Mining, a group dedicated to protecting the water, air, land and health of communities in areas impacted by uranium mines. We're also joined by Jay Coghlan of Nuclear Watch New Mexico and former Los Alamos National Laboratory investigator Chuck Montaño.

Indigenous Peoples Call for Global Ban on Uranium Mining
Via Mary NeverIdle Fish; Indigenous peoples from around the world, victims of uranium mining, nuclear testing, and nuclear dumping, issued a global ban on uranium mining on native lands. The declaration, signed during the Indigenous World Uranium Summit, held Nov. 30-Dec. 2, 2006 on the Navajo Nation in Window Rock, Arizona, brought together Australian aboriginals and villagers from India and Africa. Pacific islanders joined with indigenous peoples from the Americas to take action and halt the cancer, birth defects, and death from uranium and nuclear industries on native lands.
Villagers from India testified to the alarming number of babies who die before they are born or are born with serious birth defects, and of the high rates of cancer that are claiming the lives of those who live near the uranium mines.

MODERN SOCIETY IS NO MORE CIVILIZED THAN CAVE MEN WERE
Sickputer June 14, 2015 "Intellectual humans are not surprised in the least that governments of the world lied to the citizens about nuclear hazards. Man is the most savage apex predator on the planet. Governments have little power and few concerns for ecological issues. Corporations rule the populace.
10,000 years ago humans used fire or stampedes to kill thousands of animals in one day. Virtually all of the useful animal was lost by waste. 150 years ago a few hundred thousand humans in North America destroyed great herds of bison and exterminated the vast flocks of pigeons.
Other humans destroyed huge tracts of old growth forests to till the lands for food and profit. Streams, lakes, and rivers were fouled by human wastes and then industrial wastes from mining and manufacturing.
Did everyone deserve the blame because they couldn't stop the fouling of the environment? The huge growth of human population worldwide threw off the thousand year balance of earth resources to sustain the human race and other species. Kill or be killed has always been the territorial imperative.
Did the 95% of humans who were non-hunters and non-industrialists protest wasteful ecological destruction over the past 500 years? Very few.
We live in a world predicted accurately 45 years ago by Toffler's book Future Shock. The past history itself of humans is accelerating and rapidly catching up to the future. We are all victims. We will all suffer from ecological tragedies equally, rich or poor."

LOOKING FORWARD
The original 'owners' and inhabitants have not sought to kill off the invaders and occupiers of their land, but have instead, tried to help, teach, and inform them. The FIRST NATION peoples are peaceful and non violent, for the most part.
Maybe our modern civilization can learn something from them? All life is a huge circle, and everything comes around to the starting point eventually, either by choice or by force. Nature cannot be conquered and humans will have to learn that the hard way, if not done by choice.
