70% Of All Sea Lions Dying In California; Fukushima Radiation The Cause!

About half way into the video, Alex Jones discusses seals dying from radiation that came from Japan. Pictures are included. But let's start with an open mind, and that we do not know this yet.

What could be causing a massive die off across multiple species; seals, walruses, sea lions, plus polar bears, which is affecting whole populations of seal life from the tip of Alaska to the border of Mexico?

Experts in Alaska have been quoted as saying the problem is not caused by bacteria, virus, is not a poison, and is not related to their food supply. No red tides have been associated with this die off. Adults seals, walruses and polar bears are being found with lesions on the skin and their hair is falling out. They are acting lethargic and their immune systems are compromised.

CBS Los Angeles: “Dead sea lions everywhere” — Rescuer: I’ve never seen anything like this… we never would have imagined the numbers — Expert: No oceanographic explanation for what we’re seeing (VIDEO)

“We anticipate this will get worse when the pups begin to wean from their mothers and have to forage on their own . It’s going to be a bad year or two for sea lions [...] There really isn’t an oceanographic explanation for what we’re seeing. We’re looking at disease as a possibility and also at the food supply, and it could be some combination.”-Sharon Melin, wildlife biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service, which is part of NOAA

The scientific method is proposing a theory, analyzing the data and then supporting the theory with evidence, if it can be found. So let us start by examining some basic fundamental facts about the Pacific Ocean.

"The Kuroshio (Japanese 黒潮 "Black Tide") is a north-flowing ocean current on the west side of the North Pacific Ocean. It is similar to the Gulf Stream in the North Atlantic and is part of the North Pacific ocean gyre. Like the Gulf stream, it is a strong western boundary current."

"The Kuroshio Current, which is located just off Japan's coast, travels up to 75 miles a day at a speed of up to 3 miles per hour."

From Fukushima to Seattle is approximately 4680 miles or 7530 kilometers. By traveling the Kuroshio Current across the Pacific Ocean, it could take as little as 63 days for radioactive water to hit the Pacific Northwest if it starts at Fukushima. Fukushima released most of it's radioactivity into the air and water to the East.

Experts have theorized that 80% of all radioactivity released by Fukushima went into the ocean, after 3 reactors melted through, and three or more spent fuel pools dried out, caught on fire and/or exploded. At least one Fukushima spent fuel pool had a prompt criticality, with massive amounts of fuel rod fragments being tossed into the ocean up to 2 kilometers away.

So far, we have established clear evidence that Fukushima released MASSIVE quantities of radiation both into the ocean via leaks, explosions, and dumping after the accident happened. We have also confirmed that an ocean current circulates from the Japanese Islands, to Alaska and then south past California.

Is there evidence that Fukushima radiation has reached US shores? Since the EPA and nuclear agencies as well as the nuclear industry seem to be covering up this massive disaster and the corporate owned mass media is refusing to cover it, we have to rely on just  a few scattered reports that have come out about radiation levels in the US rising since the Fukushima accident.

Southern California had 2,500 Bq/kg of iodine-131 in seaweed — Over 500% higher than other tests in U.S., Canada

Could radiation in their mothers cause young seal pups to experience malnutrition?  "High-dose breast radiation for the therapy of breast cancer can decrease or eliminate subsequent milk production in the treated breast....."

Can we prove that low dose radiation from a distant nuclear disaster could affect young animals and/or human babies on a continent that is thousands of miles away via one or more mechanisms? The answer is yes...

Studies done around a wide variety of animals have proven that even a 1 reactor accident such as Chernobyl can cause problems in animal as well as HUMAN baby populations thousands of miles or more away. Remember, Fukushima was a 6 reactor or bigger accident, much bigger than the nuclear industry estimate, where they claim Fukushima is only a 10% of Chernobyl event.

According to the Agency for Toxic Substances, different animals have different concentration levels of radioactive particles. For instance, goat and sheep’s milk have higher levels of iodine 131 than cow’s milk.

Now we can state with assurance, that biomagnification and bioaccumulation happens in animals that humans eat, or in cows, from which humans drink the milk. Are other animals affected as well?

The answer is yes.. It seems that all animals are affected by low level radiation and biomagnify or bioaccumulate radiation. Here are just a few examples....

At least one state and probably others advise limiting fish consumption in that state to once a week, and to cut out all of the fat which concentrates the radiation, heavy metals and toxic chemicals the most. "Almost everywhere you look in Louisiana there is water, and where there is water, people catch and eat fish. However, in a few Louisiana waters, fish and shellfish have chemical (and now radioactive) contamination in amounts that may be harmful to your health if you were to eat too much over a long period of time.

These contaminants are in the environment because of various reasons such as natural deposition, industrial discharges, leaking landfills, (use of oil dispersents) and misuse of pesticides. Fish take in the contaminants from water, sediments and food. Larger, older fish and fish that eat other fish tend to accumulate more contaminants than smaller, younger fish. (Here is more proof that fish bioaccumulate and biomagnify toxins of all kinds.)

The Office of Public Health evaluates chemicals in fish to determine if the fish are contaminated and pose a health threat to children, pregnant women, adults or (when indicated) subsistence anglers. A fish consumption advisory is issued when unacceptable levels of chemical contaminants have been found in the fish filet."

Is there more scientific evidence that Fukushima radiation has been detected anywhere in the USA? The answer is yes.

Bottom line, it is proven scientific FACT that milk and seaweed radiation levels in the USA have increased dramatically since shortly after the Fukushima accident. These radiation levels have been RISING since the accident, not dropping as expected. What would cause radiation levels to rise in milk and seaweed, other than the Fukushima nuclear disaster?

Since the ocean is a transport mechanism for whatever is dropped into it, could it be that the 6 melted down reactors worth of radiation leaking or being thrown out in the form of fragmented and highly radioactive fuel rods from Fukushima is contaminating the ocean, which then affects the sea mammals on the Pacific Ocean coastline, stretching from Alaska to the tip of Mexico?

Could it be that the low level radiation contamination from Fukushima is then concentrated up the food chain to the top predators? The top of the food chain in the Pacific Ocean are the very animals that are having problems at this time.

Another fact about the ocean is that there is a huge, complex food chain, which is not understood or studied very well. Phytoplankton feed zooplankton, which are food for krill and other tiny sea critters. The krill feed the smallest fish such as sardines, which then feed larger and larger fish. In turn the these fish feed seals, sea lions, who are then preyed on by killer whales, who are at the top of the food chain.

When there is low level radiation in the ocean, due to Fukushima for example, then this radiation is absorbed by the phytoplankton, concentrated three times and moves up to the zooplankton, where it concentrates another 3-10 times. Then the krill eat the zooplankton, and concentrate the radiation again 3-10 times and so on all the way up the food chain to the top, where humans and sea lions are.

Just to give one example, according to Wikipedia, "though mercury is only present in small amounts in seawater, it is absorbed by algae (generally as methylmercury). It is efficiently absorbed, but only very slowly excreted by organisms (Croteau et al., 2005).

Bioaccumulation and bioconcentration result in buildup in the adipose tissue of successive trophic levels: zooplankton, small nekton, larger fish etc. Anything which eats these fish also consumes the higher level of mercury the fish have accumulated. Guess who eats lots of fish as a regular part of their diet? Seals and walruses.... What eats the seals? Polar bears!

All of these top of the food chain predators are having a hard time these days, but according to the 'experts' none of this is due to radiation bio accumulating in these animals. There are many 'unknown factors', but they know for certain, IT IS NOT RADIATION.. That part they are absolutely sure of. But no one is talking about what radiation levels are being found in these dead and dying seals, sea lions and polar bears. NO ONE, that is until a reporter by the name of Yoichi Shimatsu appeared.

"Relief from this ongoing bafflegab finally arrived, with Japanese environmental reporter Yoichi Shimatsu’s findings during a recent visit to California and the West coast of North America. The awake and aware will not be surprised to learn that he discovered the dead sea lions to be highly radioactive.

In an exclusive report to Rense.com, which was not replicated by any mainstream media, Mr. Shimatsu photo-documented his dosimeter readings. In one specimen, for example, we see a shocking reading of 0.48 micro Sieverts in its heart and liver regions. Examination of the gut revealed that the doomed creature had not eaten for some time, and a probable cause of death was ingestion of radioactive feed; local fish that had ingested radioactive algae, and seaweed, as well as immersion in radioactive seawater.

Moving from the digestive tract into the circulatory system, nuclear isotopes, especially cesium, had bio-accumulated in the internal organs, concentrating in the heart muscle. Cesium is well known to cause cardiac difficulties, including irregular rhythm, cell abnormalities, muscle atrophy and spasms leading to seizure and arrest.

The bio accumulation process explains why predatory fish such as swordfish and sharks or birds like osprey and eagles have higher concentrations of mercury in their tissue than could be accounted for by direct exposure alone. For example, herring contains mercury at approximately 0.01 ppm and shark contains mercury at greater than 1 ppm (EPA 1997)." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biomagnification

Although the Wiki article does not mention radiation at all, bio-accumulation and bio-concentration happens with even low doses of radiation as well, both in land based cows, sheep, goats, wolves, and other animals that graze or are predators of smaller animals.

Why would sea or ocean based animals be any different from land based animals? As the following Yale article shows, sea animals are no different; "where radiation is present in sea water, studies have found radioactive cesium and plutonium concentrating significantly in seals and porpoises that ate contaminated fish."

This concentration of radiation in US based sea lions, fish and phytoplankton can be confirmed with scientific studies and measurements, just as it was done in the above Yale article and scientific studies. However, up to now, for some very strange reason, this scientific inquiry process is NOT being carried out around the Fukushima radiation arriving at the coast of California or in Alaska. Why not?

The only organization that seems to be testing sea life is TEPCO. They are testing fish only off the coast of Japan, near Fukushima. This is the same company that is responsible for the nuclear accident. How much can they be trusted to tell us all the truth of what is going on, when the profit motive is at work?

The Japanese culture  and the nuclear industry around the globe has a habit of keeping up 'normal' appearances, despite a horrible reality that has largely been denied, ignored by the media and covered up by the nuclear industry, as explained in the articles above. The corruption and lies got so bad that the Atomic Energy Commission was disbanded and reformed into the present NRC.

Combine all of the above, and what kind of conclusion would you draw?

Finally we present the best evidence, not from one of the thousands of government and university biologists and nuclear scientists, who are SUPPOSED to be protecting the public health by investigating and reporting this kind of thing, but from an independent investigative journalist.

The mystery has finally been solved, after months of asking for 'the experts' to investigate it, but nothing coming back from them, except silence.

Bottom line, low dose radiation is the cause behind all of these problems and die-offs involving sea lions, walruses, seals, and polar bears stretching from Alaska to Mexico. But that raises another troubling question. What is happening to humans who are eating this same seafood that these animals are eating?

Who is monitoring the radiation in seafood? Who is measuring the internal radiation that is surely building up in those who eat a lot of seafood? Who is measuring the radiation buildup in these cousins who are like canaries in the coal mine, warning us about the invisible toxic, and deadly radioactive trash left behind by the nuclear industry?

So far, the answer is NO ONE. There is a stone wall of silence from the nuclear industry, from biologists, and from the nuclear scientists working in the colleges and universities around the world. They are all afraid, very afraid.

But we would not want you to think that all sea lions are dead or dying, because that is not how radiation works.. Here is a live webcam of sea lions in Pier 39 in San Francisco CA. Enjoy!
